Render Animation¶

Render animation allows you to render your animation to an image sequence, .gif , .mp4 , .mkv , or .ogg file. It replaces Export Blitheness.

For rendering to an blithe file format, Krita will get-go render to a PNG sequence and and then use FFmpeg, which is really skilful at encoding into video files, to render that sequence to an animated file format. The reason for this 2-step process is that animation files can be really complex and really large, and this is the best way to permit you to keep command over the export process. For example, if your figurer has a hiccup, and i frame saves out weird, showtime saving the image sequence allows y'all to just resave that one weird frame earlier rendering.

This means that you lot will need to find a good place to stick your frames before you can first rendering. If y'all only exercise throwaway animations, you can use a spot on your difficult-drive with enough room and select Delete Sequence After Rendering.

Image Sequence¶

Base Proper name

The base name of your epitome sequence. This volition get suffixed with a number depending on the frame.

File Format

The file format to export the sequence to. When rendering we enforce PNG. The usual export options can be modified with .

Render Location

Where you lot render the epitome sequence to. Some people adopt to utilise a flash-drive or maybe a harddrive that is fast.

Starting time Frame

The get-go frame of the range of frames you wish to conform. Automatically set up to the commencement frame of your current selection in the timeline. This is useful when you lot only want to re-return a little part.

Last Frame

As above, the concluding frame of the range of frames you wish to adjust. Automatically set to the last frame of your current choice in the timeline.

Naming Sequence starts with

The frames are named past using Base Name in a higher place and adding a number for the frame. This allows you to prepare where the frame number starts, so rendering from 8 to 10 with starting bespeak three will requite you images named eleven and xv. Useful for programs that don't understand sequences starting with 0, or for precision output.

Render Animation¶

Render As

The file format to render to. All except GIF take extra options that tin can be manipulated via .

File

Location and name of the rendered animation.

FFmpeg

The location where your have FFmpeg. If y'all don't have this, Krita cannot render an blitheness. For proper GIF back up, you volition need FFmpeg 2.6, as we use its palettegen functionality.

Delete Sequence After Rendering

Delete the prerendered image sequence after done rendering. This allows you to choose whether to try and save some space, or to save the sequence for when encoding fails.

Warning

Krita currently does not back up rendering video with transparent elements, and volition instead render them as black. To combat this, you can add in a fully colored, opaque layer at the lesser of the file before rendering.

Setting Up Krita for Exporting Animations¶

Y'all will need to download an extra application and link information technology in Krita for it to piece of work. The awarding is pretty large (50MB), so the Krita developers didn't desire to parcel it with the normal awarding. The software that we will use is free and called FFmpeg. The post-obit instructions will explicate how to go it and set it up. The setup is a ane-time affair so you lot won't have to do it over again.

Stride 1 - Downloading FFmpeg¶

For Windows¶

Open the FFmpeg download folio.

Go to release section and cull the download link that says ffmpeg-release-essentials.goose egg .

Note

Don't download the file which filename contains the give-and-take shared . It won't work with Krita.

If the filename ends with .7z , you lot can still employ information technology, but then you need to have a program that can open 7zip archives (for case 7zip itself). In case of a .zip file, yous can open up information technology just using the Windows file browser.

For macOS¶

Please meet the department above. However, FFmpeg is obtained from here instead. Just pick the big green button on the left under the FFmpeg heading. You will as well need an archiving utility that supports .7z, since FFmpeg provides their macOS builds in .7z format. If you don't have one, try something like Keka.

Alternatively y'all can find the smaller text nether the large green push button that says Download every bit ZIP. Then you should be able to excerpt it just using Finder.

For Linux¶

FFmpeg can exist installed from the repositories on about Linux systems. Version ii.half dozen is required for proper GIF support, as we use the palettegen functionality.

Step two - Unzipping and Linking to Krita¶

For Windows¶

One time you've downloaded, go to the file location. Right click on the FFmpeg file, and select Extract All... . Select the file destination, and rename the file to 'ffmpeg'.

Hint

Information technology is easiest to relieve the file under C: drive, but any location is fine.

Open Krita dorsum upwards and go to . Nether Export > Video , click the file icon next to FFmpeg. Select this file C:/ffmpeg/bin/ffmpeg.exe and click OK.

FFmpeg path.

Tip

If you have saved FFmpeg to a different location, choose <ffmpeg location>/ffmpeg/bin/ffmpeg.exe .

For macOS¶

After downloading FFmpeg, you lot just need to extract it so but point to information technology in the FFmpeg location in Krita like /Users/user/Downloads/ffmpeg (assuming you downloaded and extracted the .7z file to /Users/user/Downloads).

For Linux¶

FFmpeg is, if installed from the repositories, usually establish in /usr/bin/ffmpeg .

Step three - Testing out an blitheness¶

ffmpeg.exe is what Krita uses to exercise all of its animation export magic. Now that it is hooked up, allow the states test it out.

Permit'southward brand an blithe GIF. In the Render Animation dialog, alter the Render As field to "GIF image". Choose the file location where information technology will relieve with the "File" menu beneath. I just saved it to my desktop and called it "export.gif". When it is done, you should be able to open it up and see the blitheness.

Alarm

By default, FFmpeg volition render MP4 files with a too new codec, which means that Windows Media Player won't be able to play information technology. So for Windows, select "baseline" for the profile instead of "high422" before rendering.

Annotation

macOS does not come with whatsoever software to play MP4 and MKV files. If y'all use Chrome for your web browser, y'all tin can drag the video file into that and the video should play. Otherwise you lot will need to become a program similar VLC to see the video.
